Selena Gomez begs Justin Bieber to cancel Saudi Arabia show: ‘It will hurt’

Selena Gomez pleaded with Justin Bieber to cancel a show in Saudi Arabia as the country’s authorities try to hang its first woman prisoner this week. Ms. Gomez, the fiancée of dissident Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, paid a somber visit to his funeral in Istanbul, where he was killed in a prominent Saudi consulate Oct. 2.

I’m asking @justinbieber to cancel the Saudi Arabia show. Please join me in changing his mind and letting him know this will hurt the LGBTQ community, women and all those who love Jamal. Enough is enough, @justinbieber. Put humanity before profits. And please, think of #JamalKhashoggi — Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) March 22, 2018

She also went after the State Department, tweeting, “U.S. government asked the artist to cancel his show in Saudi Arabia (don’t get me wrong, I disagree with what happened in Saudi Arabia) but they chose to not tell him not to go — then everyone here assumes he can do whatever he wants.”

Bieber, who said his wife was pregnant when he visited Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last October, has never come out as bisexual. His “Purpose World Tour” is estimated to be worth more than $55 million. The country’s State Department said this week that it was “deeply concerned” about the impending execution of human rights activist Ali Al Nasser, Saudi Arabia’s first female prisoner, who was charged with “trespassing and building an unlicensed nonprofit organization” and is facing the death penalty.
