Why the stadium is bigger and what it means for Lewis Hamilton’s history-making…

“I feel so proud and excited and I love the fans. It’s been an amazing year and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Hamilton: “Looking back it’s been an incredible season. There are so many people in the world and my sport that I want to be able to give back to and what better way than with this record? To be able to break this record in the record-breaking year with the crowds is super special and also super special to be part of history. I think it’s a testament to everyone and what we’ve worked for over the last year. I feel so proud and excited and I love the fans. It’s been an amazing year and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Update from chief executive

Here’s an update from Formula 1 chief executive Chase Carey.

“I’m sitting in Africa. I’ve got a selection of mountains in a resort hotel with gorgeous views. It’s phenomenal.

“When I look at the fans I see it. I am just impressed. I feel like I had nothing to do with Formula 1. It’s incredible and I’m just blown away by the audiences. Everyone is so happy and, I could never think that anybody outside of F1 would feel this.”
